Simulation study for a switchable adaptive polymer dispersed liquid crystal smart window for two climate zones (Riyadh and London)

Polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) is an electrically switchable smart window, that can provide privacy and control solar radiation, resulting in a potential energy saving. The optical properties of the PDLC window be altered from translucent to transparent when alternating current power supply applied. However, little attention has been paid terms overall building performance. Therefore, this study aims investigate impact on heating, cooling, lighting loads daylight performance, for office utilising modelling analysis tool. limited two contrasting climate zones; arid (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) temperate (London, United Kingdom). results showed was more effective Riyadh (arid climate) with cooling reduction 12.8% than London (temperate heating 4.9%. provided excellent interior illuminance both cities.
